LPN carries out research on the science and technology of low-dimensional semiconductors (semiconductor quantum wells, wires and dots) and photonic nanostructures (micro- and nano-cavities, photonic crystals). Activities range from growth of ordered nanostructures to studies of low-dimensional excitons all the way to development and commercialization of long-wavelength vertical cavity surface emitting lasers.

Positioning and alignment of DNA molecules
Electron-beam-induced lithography of organic films deposited on graphite substrates is employed for implementing positioning and alignment of triple- and double-stranded DNA molecules. Similar nano-templates based on such ''electrostatic traps'' should be useful for producing a variety of nanoscale molecular or bioelectronic devices..
